SUMMARY:Two day workshop: exploring class privilege
DESCRIPTION:You can apply via this form: https://nc-feros.nestor.coop/apps/
forms/s/kbD27NJ4GYwJWSssb9YrnW4F\n\nIn case of questions you can contact u
s at training@feros.be. If the form is too long for you and for disability
reasons you need a phone call or to send us voice messages\, this is poss
ible too.\n\nExploring Class\nWe’re happy to invite you to a 2-day works
hop exploring class privilege. The aims of this workshop are to:\n\n buil
d a collective understanding and vocabulary around class &amp\; class priv
ilege\n support participants to increase their understanding of their own
class position\n examine the ways in which class dynamics show up in our
groups and movements\n support a culture of mutual aid\, redistribution
and accountability\n\nWho is this training for ?\nThis is a training for p
eople who are active in movements for social and ecological justice who ar
e genuinely curious to reflect on the topic of class privilege\, their own
class position and the responsibilities that come with that.\n\nFacilitat
ion style &amp\; content warning\nOur facilitation is based in experientia
l learning. Our methods engage participants on the level of heart (emotion
s)\, head (thinking and concepts) and hands (practical experience / embodi
ment).  We aim to create a group culture of collective care\, where activ
e listening and accountability bring a greater sense of safety and inclusi
vity.\n\nIn this particular workshop you’ll be asked to share not only y
our personal experiences around class but you will also be asked challengi
ng questions regarding the cultural capital (education\, social codes) and
wealth (income\, inheritance\, family property etc) you have access to. Y
ou will see examples of the questions in the application form. Of course e
verything that is shared in your forms or during this workshop will remain
confidential.\n\nWhile we will look at the ways class intersects with oth
er forms of oppression\, especially race\, gender and disability\, the foc
us of this workshop is firmly on exploring social class. That means that i
f you are a person of color\, transgender person or a disabled person with
access to class privilege\, you will find yourself in the position of all
y and will be expected to think about redistribution (which can be within
your own community). Please contact us if you have any concerns about that
.\n\nPractical info &amp\; accessibility\nThe workshop will take place at
 Au Kalme\, Rue Fransman 118\, 1020 Brussels. Transport accessibility:\n\n\
 n Metro: Bockstael (6) – 550m on foot\n Tram: Jacobs Fontaine (62\, 93
 ) – 350m on foot\n Bus: Jacobs Fontaine (88) – 350m on foot\; Bocksta
 el (86\, 53) – 550m on foot\n Bike: bike parking in the garden\n Car:
parking available in the garden\n\nThe workshop will run from 10h – 18h3
 0. Doors open at 9h30. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start
to land\, put your stuff down and allow us to start on time.\n\nWe will pr
 ovide tea\, coffee\, biscuits\, and a vegan lunch on both days.\n\nThe ven
ue was selected to meet as many neurodivergent accessibility criteria as p
ossible (sensory sensitivities\, type of lighting\, ambient noise\, multip
le rooms\, etc.). A quiet space is available for isolation\, noise-canceli
ng headphones available. Wide chairs without armrests for larger-bodied pe
ople. The venue is mostly accessible for people with reduced mobility\, bu
t the toilets are not. Depending on your disability it might be possible t
o use the toilets with the support of someone from our team. We have to ve
rify how wide the doors are.\n\nGiven our limited budget\, we were unfortu
nately not able to find a “perfect” space. The venue is not fully acce
ssible for people with reduced mobility. There are some stairs to enter th
e main room and stairs to go to the toilet. If this is a barrier to you\,
please let us know and we will try to find a different venue (we have a fe
w options in mind). \n\nWe alternate seated and standing exercises\, but
you are welcome to stay seated\, stand up\, or leave the room at any time.
This workshop is open to everyone\, regardless of physical condition\, ho
wever some exercises are not fully accessible to people with reduced mobil
ity. Please contact us in advance if you need adaptations to the program.
\n\nThe workshop will be facilitated in English. Facilitators may be abl
e to provide occasional translation to Dutch or French and you may express
yourself in this language if that’s more accessible to you.\n\nIf you h
ave any specific access needs or questions you can contact us at: training
@feros.be or leave us a voice message via DM (Messenger or Instagram).\n\n
Financial contribution\nWe strive to offer our activities to those who nee
d them\, whatever their financial capacity. As a young collective\, we hav
e no fixed income and rely mostly on participant donations to organise our
activities. Even though this is a try-out workshop\, we do not consider i
t appropriate to ask working class facilitators to facilitate on this topi
c for free and will make the same costs as for a regular workshop.\n\nMone
y should not be an obstacle to taking part in this workshop. The actual co
st is 110 euros per person. We encourage all those who can to give more\,
to create space for those who can contribute less financially. In particul
 ar\, we are asking white\, able-bodied\, university-educated or otherwise
privileged participants to contribute more\, up to 220 euros per person.\n
\nWe will send you our bank details after you have attended the workshop.
If you would like to make an anonymous donation\, please contact us.\n\nTh
e trainers\nThis training will be facilitated by Eleke (she/her)\, Robin (
he/they) and Mon (she/he/they). Eleke and Robin come from different experi
ences within the working class. Mon joins this team as an ally from an own
ing class family and takes this work on as uncompensated volunteer work.\n
\nWe are (have been) active in various movements and campaigns\, including
the environmental justice movement\, solidarity with Palestine\, youth wo
 rk\, the squatters’ movement\, (queer) feminism\, resource justice\, tra
ns rights\, anti-racism.\n\nOur trainer contingent is mixed in terms of ge
 nder (identity)\, sexuality\, social class\, level of education\, physical
  disability\, (mental) health\, neurodiversity\, level of English\, income
 \, family composition\, work situation\, family wealth\, living situation.
\n\nAll trainers are white and hold a Belgian passport.\n\nWe are between
30 and 40 years old. We like baking\, hiking\, growing things\, writing po
etry/songs\, (listening to) fantasy books and dancing\, among other things
.\n\nAbout Feros and background of this work\nFeros is a Belgian collectiv
e of facilitators organising workshops and activities around radical colle
ctive care\, inclusivity and queer feminist self-defence. In this way we s
upport individuals\, groups\, collectives and organisations that work towa
rds social and ecological justice.\n\nAll of our trainings are firmly root
ed in a queer\, intersectional\, decolonial feminist political analysis. W
e organise both open workshops\, to which anyone can apply\, and bespoke w
orkshops for existing organisations\, groups or collectives\,  working to
wards social- and ecological justice.\n\nIn 2022 we started a project arou
nd classism in leftist groups. We organised several conversations in “ch
osen mixity” working class to talk about the barriers we face in activis
t spaces. One of the conclusions of these conversations was that many acti
vists in Belgian leftist groups don’t know how to position themselves wh
en it comes to class.\n\nIn 2025 four of our volunteers followed a trainin
g of trainers on “exploring class” in the UK run by the founders of th
e class work project and ARC (a revolutionary class).\n\nIn 2026 Feros wil
l start offering 2 day workshops: “exploring class privilege” in Belgi
um. To prepare for this we’re organising a try-out version of the worksh
op which is invitation only on 7\,8 February. The first open workshop is p
 lanned for October 31st\, November 1st.\n\n&nbsp\;
